What you confirm when you publish a lesson
A lesson is text and timing that you publish to go with a video. Before it is published you confirm that you may publish that text for that video.
The statement
“I confirm that I have the rights or permission necessary to publish this lesson content for use with this video.” Shadowing Player records that you confirmed this, and when. It does not check who owns a video or a text, and it does not verify your answer.
What belongs in a lesson
Usually yours to publish
- Sentences you wrote and spoke in your own video
- Your own translations of those sentences
- Quiz questions and explanations you wrote
- Material you have written permission to use
Do not publish without permission
- A transcript of someone else’s video, film, series or song
- Captions copied from another channel
- Text from a textbook or course you did not write
- A lesson for a video that is not yours, unless its owner agreed
What Shadowing Player stores, and what it does not
Stored: your lesson
The text, translations, timings, groups and quiz content you upload, with your teacher name and the video’s ID.
Stored: your confirmation
That you accepted the statement above, for which lesson and revision, and when.
Not stored: the video
No video or audio is uploaded, downloaded or copied. YouTube plays your video.
If something should not be there
You can archive your own lesson at any time in Teacher Studio; it is then no longer offered to learners. A lesson reported as infringing someone’s rights can be taken out of public view. This page is general guidance, not legal advice: if you are unsure whether you may use something, ask its owner or a lawyer.
